A government agency designed to connect small and medium businesses with the defence industry is spending the virtually same amount on its administration as it does on offering grants to firms.

Labor is questioning the efficiency of the little-known Centre for Defence Industry Capability over revelations its annual operating budget is $23 million while it oversees the distribution of $23.6 million in grants.
