COVID-19 derails Albanese election bid

Labor leader Anthony Albanese has tested positive for COVID-19, throwing his election campaign into disarray just as he was back on track following a strong performance in Wednesday night’s leaders’ debate.

Mr Albanese will be benched for seven days and forced to campaign virtually, while frontbenchers will be given more public duties. Deputy leader Richard Marles will step up first. Both parties had made preparations for virtual campaigning in the event their leader caught COVID-19.
