Ed Husic’s suggestion this week that the government should consider easing the corporate tax burden was not a random thought but part of a long-held concern by the industry minister about the cost of business inputs and the subsequent impact on investment capacity.

That Husic and Treasurer Jim Chalmers do not see eye-to-eye on policy matters is of little surprise to the political establishment, but his decision to voice his views on the corporate tax burden on Tuesday has now elevated that divergence of views into the public sphere.
