Coalition dilemma on backing Labor’s tax cuts
The federal opposition is leaning towards trying to amend, and then wave through, Labor’s revamped tax package to avoid being criticised for opposing tax cuts for low-income earners and not distract the focus from Anthony Albanese’s integrity.
But as the shadow cabinet, which is due to meet again on Monday, grapples with the issue, there remains a separate view among some that the party should stand on principle and not reward a broken promise.
