Jim Chalmers has warned voters against flirting with supporting Peter Dutton, insisting that Labor has a better grasp of real-world concerns than the Coalition.

In a major speech in Perth, the treasurer said the Albanese government did not need the election of Donald Trump as president to realise cost-of-living issues were dominating kitchen table conversations, and the country had “lots to lose” in any return to Coalition rule.
