Chalmers flags action on EV road user charge

Treasurer Jim Chalmers nominated establishing a road user charge for electric vehicles as a tax reform priority during a dinner with business leaders, raising industry hopes it will be dealt with swiftly should Labor win a second term in government.

Dr Chalmers, who referred the design of a road user charge to the national cabinet in 2023, only for the process to stall, cited the need to address falling fuel excise revenue when asked about his plans for tax reform.
