Australia won’t be a republic in my lifetime, says George Brandis

London | Australia will not become a republic anytime soon and Prince Charles will be “a very fine head of state for Australia”, the outgoing high commissioner to Britain, George Brandis, has said.

In one of his last public engagements before wrapping up his four-year term – with no replacement announced this side of the federal election – the 64-year-old Mr Brandis was asked whether Australia would become a republic in his lifetime.
