Australia’s winter gas woes will extend into next year, the competition watchdog has warned, with considerably higher demand for heating set to cause shortfalls in the southern states.

In its latest update on the east coast gas market, the Australian Competition and Commissioner Commission said substantial residential, commercial and industrial demand would result in gas shortages of up to 28 petajoules, a slight improvement on recent forecasts.
