Unions and the Coalition are preparing to fight any moves by Australia Post to wind back daily mail delivery around Australia, warning regional banking and retail services must be strengthened as part of a major review.

Chief executive Paul Graham stopped short of ruling out job losses from the review announced by Communications Minister Michelle Rowland on Thursday, saying only that a stronger financial footing would be good for jobs at the government-owned corporation.
