Australia ends freeze on $6m for Palestinian aid agency UNRWA
The Executive Council of Australian Jewry has slammed the Albanese government for unfreezing $6 million for the UN’s Palestinian aid agency, warning taxpayer-funded aid is at risk of being commandeered by terrorists.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong defended the decision, insisting stringent conditions would be attached to a new agreement, including guarantees over the neutrality of UN Relief and Works Agency staff and that people in the supply chain cannot profit from distributing aid.
