Army wants a shore thing with new amphibious fleet

Australia’s engagement with Pacific nations will be boosted by an $800 million plan to design and build a new fleet of landing vessels and amphibious vehicles, which could also create export opportunities.

The Defence Department will go to the market to find replacements for its Vietnam War-era landing crafts and amphibious vehicles, with the new vessels to be built in Australia.
