A special committee established to advise the government on welfare policy before each budget is recommending Labor atone for Julia Gillard’s act in 2012 of stripping single mothers of parenting payments, sources say.
The Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee has recommended increased support for single parents, many of whom, predominantly women, have struggled since the controversial 2012 budget measure.
