Albanese quietly frees up funds for election fight

Anthony Albanese has quietly implemented a shift in budget strategy that allows him to free up funds for election priorities such as more cost-of-living assistance.
The shift enables him to abandon existing unannounced policies, and pocket the money, and also requires ministers to run all new proposals directly through the prime minister’s office for approval, before being allowed to proceed to the budget process.
