Air force officials rebuff concerns over slow pace of missile defence

Senior air force officials have denied Australia is neglecting missile defence, saying the immediate focus is knitting together various systems and sensors to detect enemy threats before acquiring a suite of weapons to shoot them down.

The Albanese government has faced questions over recent changes to its military acquisitions that appeared to put on the backburner plans to acquire ballistic and medium-range missile defence systems, despite the conflicts in Israel and Ukraine demonstrating their importance for protecting civilians and infrastructure.
