PM: Floods ‘a catastrophe on a very national scale’
Scott Morrison has warned the growing flood crisis across NSW and southern Queensland represents a national catastrophe, as heavy rain and flash flooding caused major disruption across Sydney’s suburbs and sent damage bills soaring.
Federal cabinet’s expenditure review committee was meeting on Tuesday night to sign off on additional emergency funding for the hardest-hit areas, with more Australian Defence Force personnel expected to be deployed to assist with a mammoth recovery effort, ahead of more wild weather to come this week.
