Crunch time for the Coalition as an election approaches
On the week of the 14th anniversary of the demise of the Howard government, Scott Morrison warns his party it could go the same way unless it pulls together.
Amid the chaos of this week, few, if any, noticed that Wednesday marked the 14th anniversary of the Howard government losing power. But for Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who entered Parliament at the 2007 election, the anniversary served as a timely opportunity to remind colleagues that all things do end.
With ill-discipline erupting across several fronts, Morrison told his feuding troops that the election, due between March and May next year, was the government’s to lose. “It’s up to us,” he repeatedly told Coalition MPs and senators at Tuesday’s weekly party room meeting.
