The nation’s top doctor says Australia’s fourth omicron wave is near its peak and case numbers should drop sharply soon after, despite a near-50 per cent increase in infections over the past week.
Chief Medical Officer Professor Paul Kelly said Australia was nearing the middle of the current wave based on multiple indicators including furloughing of staff, ambulance call-outs, wastewater testing and aged care staff positivity rates.
