CLYDE Industries Ltd is looking to escalate a program of cutting fixed costs in its core railway services area in the wake of a huge decline in the division's profitability in the December half.

The railway services group recorded a 60 per cent drop in earnings for the six months to December 31, dragging the group's total earnings for the period down 30 per cent to $8.7 million.
