Rare earths stocks soared on Wednesday after China reduced its export quota for the contentious metals for the first half of 2011.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce approved an export quota of rare earths of 14,446 tonnes for the first six months of 2011, down 35 per cent on the corresponding period in 2010.
