COVID-19 warning ahead of New Year’s Eve parties
New Year’s Eve partygoers should consider wearing face masks, testing for COVID-19 if they have symptoms and stay away from large crowds if they want to avoid a wave of virus infections sweeping the country, experts warn.
Waning immunity, “highly infectious” subvariants, testing fatigue and holiday events were combining to drive case numbers up across Australia, Curtin University professor of public health Jaya Dantas said this would likely increase next week as a hangover of New Year’s Eve gatherings hit.
