Common hormones used for contraception linked to brain tumours

Prolonged use of a common hormone used in some contraceptives has been linked to an increased risk of a tumour that grows in the membranes around the brain.

A large French study, published in the British Medical Journal on Thursday, says women who use one of three types of progestogen for a year or more appear to be at a raised risk of developing this rare tumour.
