Another top epidemiologist backed calls for Victoria to go into a “soft lockdown” given the rising costs of prolonged strict measures, as Premier Daniel Andrews admitted he had no more levers left to pull to contain the delta coronavirus variant.

Professor Catherine Bennett, chair in epidemiology at Deakin, supported Melbourne University’s Professor Tony Blakely who wrote in The Australian Financial Review this week that restrictions may soon need to be eased to ensure widespread compliance.
