Aged care tax doesn’t add up politically, economically, morally

The royal commission makes the case for change but it gives the government no political cover for more self-funding to pay for a better system.

The aged-care royal commission has, piece-by-harrowing-piece, constructed an undeniable case for change. But it has also failed to offer the government political cover on how to pay for it.

The good news is there’s now relatively minor argument within the sector and the community about the big structural goals we must pursue.
