A GST on health insurance would be the tipping point for members

A 10 per cent increase in premiums would be a self-defeating policy that would hurt households, destabilise the health system, and increase pressure on public hospitals.

As the Albanese government considers new revenue measures before the treasurer’s economic roundtable, one idea stands out for its potential to cause significant damage to the Australian health system: applying the GST to health insurance.

Such a policy would not only impose an unnecessary cost on 15 million Australians but would also undermine the stability of our mixed public-private health model, which is internationally recognised for delivering efficient, high-quality care.
