It doesn’t get much tougher than retail stockbroking at the moment. Just ask Austock and Wilson HTM . The former was sold for a nominal amount recently, while Wilson expects to make a $7 million to $8 million loss this year.

But that doesn’t mean the bulge-bracket investment banks don’t value their stakes in retail brokers.
