WA minister splits with Canberra on offshore wind

West Australian energy minister Reece Whitby has cast doubt on whether offshore wind is suited to the west coast after several developers dropped plans for projects, exposing a rift with federal Labor on the prospects for the technology to contribute to clean energy targets.

Western Australia’s huge availability of land, with its wealth of onshore wind and solar resources, meant offshore wind technology was better suited to the east coast, Mr Whitby said.
