US subsidy frenzy triggers hydrogen strategy revamp

State, federal and territory governments have agreed to “revise and refresh” the nation’s 2019 green hydrogen strategy amid fresh warnings the local industry may never get off the ground because global capital is surging to the US in the wake of Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act.

The first national meeting of climate change and energy ministers on Friday charged federal minister Chris Bowen with taking the lead to ensure Australia is put “on a path to be a global hydrogen leader by 2030 on both an export basis and for the decarbonisation of Australian industries”.
