Rio Tinto is one of the biggest power consumers in the National Electricity Market through its Tomago and Boyne aluminium smelters in NSW and Queensland respectively.
Mostly powered by fossil fuels, those smelters loom as Rio’s biggest opportunity to reduce its carbon footprint and achieve its goal of halving its global emissions by 2030.
