LA burning a reminder that climate action matters to Australia

In a hotter world, the risk of more common, more extreme weather is part of the prudent economic case for improving the environment.

Climate change was expected to take a back seat at the federal election due to be held no later than May 17. Which side of politics is best equipped to combat global warming has fallen down the list of voters’ priorities amid the cost-of-living crisis.

Indeed, both Labor and the Coalition have preferred to insincerely talk up how their respective energy plans will lower power prices rather than level with voters by arguing the transition from fossil fuels to renewables will reframe the economy for the better but involve cost and disruption along the way.
