Depending on who’s talking, the Albanese government’s flagship program for boosting investment in new clean electricity generation – the Capacity Investment Scheme – is an essential policy mechanism for reaching 2030 climate targets, or a misnamed renewables subsidy scheme that will do little to keep the lights on.

The reality may lie somewhere in between.
