The National Electricity Market must be made fit for purpose, says the head of the Energy Security Board, because of the profound changes sweeping Australia's power system.
The reason for the redesign of the national energy market is that the market at the moment is absolutely not fit for purpose.
It was made for a market based on coal and gas and hydro generation, and consumers who really didn't have much of a relationship with their retailers, apart from paying their bills and occasionally switching.
