Big miners fear tax increase from Chalmers’ roundtable

Resources companies fear Treasurer Jim Chalmers’ economic roundtable could propose higher taxes on mining and energy to pay for cutting other taxes, after the nation’s biggest export industry was omitted from the 24-member invite list.

Mining groups instead attended a mini-roundtable on Thursday with Resources Minister Madeleine King and her department head Meghan Quinn, part of consultations ministers are doing with stakeholders in the lead up to Chalmers’ major meeting with business, unions and policymakers next month.
