Why grown men and women cried over David Bowie's death

So it's with caution that I wanted to write about the profound and visceral impact the shock death of David Bowie seems to have had on so many people who as a rule don't go in for idolatry.
Friends, family and colleagues – grown men and women – have admitted to crying about the news of his death from cancer at 69. One friend, who learned to play music through Bowie's albums, said he hadn't felt the same way since John Lennon died.
