Lakes Oil NL reckons to be Australia's oldest oil explorer. It markets itself as a source of "clean natural gas to serve Victoria". But Lakes' past and future have been torn up and trashed by the Victorian government's unprecedented rejection of conventional petroleum drilling technologies.

On Tuesday, Victoria's increasingly rattled and vulnerable Premier, Daniel Andrews, confirmed a permanent ban on unconventional drilling technologies and another four-year moratorium on onshore drilling for oil and gas.
