It says a lot about the bizarre goings on in the world of banking that Brian Hartzer's global role model for success is Californian bank Wells Fargo & Co.

While it is true Wells Fargo was named this week by Brand Finance as having the world's most valuable bank brand, it is streets behind Westpac in terms of financial valuation.
