Trump trade war erupts with EU and Canada

US President Donald Trump has triggered a tit-for-tat international trade fight with key allies by imposing metal tariffs on Canada, Europe and Mexico, a protectionist move that ensnares $US2 billion ($2.6 billion) of aluminium sales by Rio Tinto.
Political leaders from US trade partners immediately unveiled tariff retaliation plans.
