London | In the big-money world of English football, owning your own club is usually the sole preserve of Russian oligarchs, American financiers and Asian or Middle Eastern business tycoons. But maybe not for much longer. A plucky group of Aussies is knocking on the door, and they want to shake things up.

Their target is the venerable and characterful south London club Charlton Athletic, 114 years old this June, a former Premier League high flyer now fallen on hard times – and put on the auction block last year by its mercurial Belgian owner.
