Hong Kong leader says extradition bill is 'dead'

Shanghai | Hong Kong's leader Carrie Lam has declared a controversial extradition law which triggered mass protests in the city is "dead" as she admitted her government's work to amend the proposed legislation was a "total failure".

However, her refusal to use the word "withdraw" in relation to the proposed laws angered political activists who said her position on the bill had not really changed and demonstrations would continue until she agreed to meet their demands.
