Lam apologises to Hong Kong after more than a week of unrest

Hong Kong | Hong Kong's leader Carrie Lam says she must "shoulder much of the responsibility" for the events which triggered mass demonstrations in the city",  offering a personal apology in an effort to restore calm after more than a week of unrest.

However, Ms Lam asked for a "second chance" as she refused to bow to demonstrators' demands to resign. She also refused to completely withdraw the controversial extradition laws, which have been the trigger point for growing fears in the former British colony about the erosion of civil rights under China.
