High profile No campaigners including Tony Abbott failed to sway their own local constituents, who have backed legalising same-sex marriage in overwhelming numbers.

Mr Abbott's seat of Warringah, on Sydney's northern beaches, returned a Yes vote of 75 per cent, one of the highest in the country, according to postal survey results.
