Same-sex marriage bill clears Senate

Gay marriage has one final hurdle to jump to become law after senators passed a private members bill allowing same-sex couples to wed by 43 votes to 12.
Applause erupted and tears were shed as senators embraced each other when the final numbers was called out by President Scott Ryan.
