The federal budget deficit has blown out by $26 billion over four years since May and the forecast return to balance has been pushed out by at least another year, to 2020-21 at the earliest.
In the mid-year economic update, which by the government's own admission is sober and realistic, growth forecasts since the May budget have been downgraded and deficits over all four years have blown out.
