Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will make a dramatic intervention into the energy debate today by announcing plans for a series of tunnels and power stations that will boost the output of the Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric scheme by 50 per cent.
Two days after the South Australian government re-entered the power game by promising to build, own and operate a gas-fired power station, the federal government will pour up to $2 billion into expanding the iconic power scheme which it co-owns with the governments of NSW and Victoria.
