WA Barnett government approves uranium mine weeks out from election

The Barnett government has for the first time rejected advice against a major mining project by its environmental watchdog as it pumps up its pro-development credentials less than eight weeks from the state election.

Environment minister Albert Jacob was on Tuesday trumpeting the government's decision to approve one of the nation's biggest new uranium mines – Cameco's Yeelirrie in the northern Goldfields.
