Federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt slammed environmental groups for abusing the legal system to delay big mining projects, including the proposed mega-mines in the Galilee Basin, saying he was still committed to closing the loopholes in the approval process.

Mr Hunt – who has approved a trillion dollars' worth of mining projects in his almost two years in the job – refused to blame his own department after the Federal Court on Wednesday set aside environmental approval for Indian energy giant Adani's $16.5 billion Carmichael coal mine on Thursday to fix a "technical matter".
