In the fractious world of Australian politics, the appointment of Philip Lowe as the next governor of the Reserve Bank represented one of those increasingly rare and precious glimpses of harmony.

Not only were Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and his Treasurer Scott Morrison in uncharacteristic unity, but the appointment was also warmly endorsed by Shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen.
