Even when Paul Skamvougeras, the son of a pipe layer, was a 22-year-old junior administrator at Perpetual living with his parents in the Western Sydney suburb of Oatlands, he wore an expensive suit to work every day.
"You couldn't tell he was working in the back office making $20,000 a year," says his father, Nick Skamvougeras. "I said to him, 'You look like a gentleman'. I thought, 'This guy is going to go high'."
