Financial stocks pushed the sharemarket higher, buoyed by a standout result from ANZ Banking Group, takeover activity in property and growing doubts over the proposed bid for ASX Ltd.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 Index added 0.79 per cent, or 36.8 points, to 4684.9, hitting an intraday high of 4700.7. All sectors gained, led by information technology, telecommunications, financials and materials. The wider All Ordinaries Index rose 32.3 points to 4752.8.
