Embattled lithium explorer AVZ Minerals said it met Australia’s ambassador-designate to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and received a commitment that she would work with the miner in its efforts to obtain a mining licence in the resource-rich African nation.

The request for government support comes as the Albanese government signalled its critical minerals strategy will push back against Chinese investors’ dominance of clean energy supply chains.
