Australian dividends lag global peers as mining payouts slump

Australian dividends lagged the rest of the world in the first quarter as softer commodity prices and variable company policies dragged mining payouts lower.
Local dividends slumped 6.6 per cent on a headline basis in the first three months of the year to $27.9 billion, according to data compiled by Janus Henderson, a $US311 billion ($471.6 billion) global asset manager.
